RED partners with Electoral Commission to drive change

RED Driving School has partnered with the Electoral Commission in order to promote voter registration among young learner drivers.

Around three in ten people aged 18 to 24 are not registered to vote, and so are unable to have their say about how the country is run. However, the new partnership is hoping to change this through social media campaigns and digital communications in the run-up to the general election on 7 May 2015.

Although young people must be 18 to vote, they can register to vote before this and this little-known fact makes them much less likely to be registered to vote than older people. As one of the leading national driving schools, RED Driving School is the perfect partner to drive change for the Electoral Commission and help young learner drivers to put their view across.

Even those who aren’t going to be 18 by the time of the general election can register, as it could boost their credit rating and stand them in good stead should they want to buy a car of their own after passing their test. Young drivers could register to vote as soon as they get their provisional licence.

With four months to go before the general election, learner drivers have plenty of time to register, which they can do online. As well as your name, address and date of birth, you will also need to provide your National Insurance number.
