What are the cons of being a driving instructor?

You need to be personable – If you’re looking for a career without too much human interaction, being a driving instructor might not be for you. Your day to day will be interacting with and guiding your students, so being happy to meet new people is a must.
Managing your time well – As it’s completely up to you how much you work, you will need to make sure that you manage both your time and your workload well. Taking on too much work can be easy to do, and it’s important to remember that dropping off a student in one location and having to get to the other side of the town to pick up another can easily add on time to your schedule.
You need to be patient – As a teacher, you need to be patient with your students. Everyones going to make mistakes from time to time, and some students may find it more difficult to pick up a certain manoeuvre than others. You’ll need to remain calm and work through these challenges with each of your students.

How do you become a driving instructor?

RED offers a comprehensive and flexible driving instructor course. Having trained around a quarter of all driving instructors on the road in the UK, we have been able to fine-tune our driving instructor course in order to offer the best training possible.

To become an approved driving instructor, you’ll need to complete three sections that make up the ADI (Approved Driving Instructor) training. At RED we make sure that you have all the tools and support at each stage of the process to ensure you have all the tools for success.

Part 1 – To pass the first part of your ADI training, you’ll need to take the theory and hazard perception test.
Part 2 – Next is to pass a practical driving test and demonstrate a professional level of driving ability to a DVSA examiner.
Part 3 – Finally, you’ll need to pass an hour-long test where a DVSA examiner will watch you deliver a client-centred driving lesson.
