To become an approved driving instructor, you’ll need to complete three sections that make up the ADI (Approved Driving Instructor) training. At RED we make sure that you have all the tools and support at each stage of the process to ensure you have all the tools for success.
During the first part of the RED driving instructor course, you’ll be preparing to tackle the theory test which checks your knowledge of the Highway Code, driving techniques, general road safety, basic first aid knowledge.
To pass the first part of your ADI training, you’ll need to take the theory and hazard perception test.
After finishing the first part of your ADI training, you’ll be preparing to pass a practical driving test and ultimately you’ll be expected to demonstrate a professional level of driving ability to a DVSA examiner.
With both the first and second parts of your ADI training complete, you’ll be onto the final stage of training which focuses on the teaching side of the role and culminates with an hour long test where a DVSA examiner will watch you delivering a client centred driving lesson to one of your customers. You are only permitted three attempts at part two and part three tests, so it is very important to choose the right school and driving instructor course when deciding to train as an instructor.
As part of the RED driving instructor course, you’ll be provided with the required hours to qualify for a trainee licence and will be given the option to join RED as a potential driving instructor (PDI).
This route tends to be the favourite and for good reason. With your PDI licence, you’ll not only be able to get extremely valuable, real experience teaching as a driving instructor, but you’ll also be earning money at the same time. The average RED driving instructor achieves a gross income of £975 a week, but it could be more depending on the hours you choose.
Our course now includes up to 80 hours of training with a qualified RED Trainer, making this the most comprehensive driving instructor package on the market.
However, you also have the option to bypass the training licence and head straight for the ADI part three test. No matter what route you choose you’ll get full support from our team of training experts to prepare you for test success.
But our support doesn’t stop there, we also provide a full business support course which provides all the insight you’ll need to be a competent and confident RED driving Instructor.
