BEGINNER DRIVING LESSONS

Learning to drive can be expensive, and at RED, we want to make sure as many people as possible have access to lessons and a license. Our Introductory Offer is available to new customers of RED, and gives you 16 hours of lessons for the price of 14, helping you to save money when learning for the first time with us. With one of your 16 hours saved for the test, if you’re ready to try for your license you won’t need to spend more money on further sessions.

At RED, our wide network of instructors means that we have different options suited to your learning preferences, ensuring that nothing gets in the way of you learning to drive. Whether you want to learn in an automatic or a manual car, have a preference for learning with a female driving instructor, or require driving lessons in a foreign language, we will do our best to accommodate your needs and help you to get your license.

As a new RED learner, you’ll be able to download our Learn to Drive with RED App to accompany your learning and speed up your progression. With the app you can monitor your progress alongside your beginner driving sessions, helping you to understand your own development and where you need to improve. You can also prepare for your driving theory test, meaning you’ll be doing everything you need to do to get your license.

Driving for the first time can be daunting, so being matched with an instructor who is mindful of first-time driving jitters is incredibly important. Many of our RED driving instructors have been trained by us, so we can ensure our beginner drivers will receive a high-quality, personalised service. There’s no minimum or maximum number of driving lessons beginners need to take before taking their practical driving test. However, you should make sure that you are confident in your abilities and feel safe behind the wheel before attempting to take a test: this will give you a better chance of passing the first time. Our instructors will advise you and let you know if they think you are ready to take to the roads by yourself or whether you should consider further sessions. If you do feel you need further tuition beyond our Introductory Offer, book as many sessions through RED as you need until you feel confident behind the wheel.

Whether you want automatic driving lessons or manual lessons is entirely up to you. Without a clutch pedal and less reliance on gear changing, lots of people think learning to drive in automatic is easier, and may be a faster way to get your license. However, passing your driving test in an automatic doesn’t mean you can drive a manual car, whereas a manual license allows you to drive in both! This option may be less limiting in future for renting vehicles and driving abroad. Whatever you choose, RED has availability to learn in either option.

Yes, having a provisional driver’s license is a legal requirement for learning how to drive. You will need to show this to your instructor before your first lesson, so make sure you’ve applied for and received this before starting. At RED, we know this can be confusing, so we have some useful guidance to help you apply for your provisional license.
