  • Learning to drive in different conditions: Driving in different conditions is important to being a safe driver, and our beginner’s lessons teach you the skills to handle poor  weather conditions, as well as driving on all types of roads you would encounter every day, including motorways and one-way roads.

FAQs

How much are driving lessons with RED?

You can get on the road for as little as £23/ hour! We offer a range of different lesson packages from 3 to 40 hours, which differ in price. This gives you a choice of how many hours you want to pay for at once. If you’re new to RED, we also have introductory offers, which give you good savings when booking your first block of driving lessons.

*At checkout, a digital charge of £1.20 per lesson hour and a booking fee of £3.49 is applied (inc VAT).

How long does it take to learn to drive?

There’s no minimum or maximum number of driving lessons beginners need to take before taking their practical driving test. However, you should make sure that you are confident in your abilities and feel safe behind the wheel before attempting to take a test - this will give you a better chance of passing the first time. Our instructors will advise you and let you know if they think you are ready to take to the roads by yourself or whether you should consider further sessions. At RED, we want you to feel confident behind the wheel and feel ready for your driving test.

Should I book automatic or manual driving lessons?

Whether you want automatic driving lessons or manual lessons is entirely up to you. Without a clutch pedal and less reliance on gear changing, lots of people think learning to drive in automatic is easier, and may be a faster way to get your licence. However, passing your driving test in an automatic doesn’t mean you can drive a manual car, whereas a manual license allows you to drive in both! Whatever you choose, RED has the ability to learn in either option.

Do I need a provisional license to learn how to drive?

Yes, having a provisional driver’s license is a legal requirement for learning how to drive. You will need to show this to your instructor before your first lesson, so make sure you’ve applied for and received this before starting. At RED, we know this can be confusing, so we have some useful guidance to help you apply for your provisional license.
