DVSA updates on test cancellations

From the 8th April, and affecting the car test only, the notice period for a test cancellation without losing the test fee will change from 3 full working days to 10 full working days (Sundays and bank holidays do not count as working days).

This makes good sense and is part of the DVSA 7-point plan to improve efficiencies and reduce test waiting times. The move to 10 working days allows a more effective and likely successful re-allocation of a cancelled test slot.

Seb Goldin, CEO of RED Driving School

“Young prospective drivers are highly motivated, and at RED Driver Training, driving instructors work hard to prepare them for their driving tests. Currently, there is a longer wait time to book tests, which in turn can prevent prospective drivers from learning to drive.

This newly introduced rule which will require learner drivers to give 10 full working days’ notice to change or cancel their car driving test without losing the test fee is a great step towards addressing these delays. It will allow those looking to get a licence to have the best chance possible of passing and ensure that they are not disappointed by further delays. We hope that this change will encourage students to book their test only once they feel fully ready, and maximise their chances of passing the first time
