Tubes from Soccer AM is learning to drive with RED
Popular Soccer AM presenter Tubes has been challenged by Vauxhall, the lead Home Nations Teams sponsor, to pass his driving test before UEFA Euro 2016 kicks off in June next year.
Tubes, who is 33 and hasn’t yet learnt to drive, has started driving lessons with RED in an attempt to pass his test in time to follow the Home Nations that qualify for the European Championship in France – and to prove to all his fans that he can do it.
Despite a driving instructor walking out on his lessons when he was 17, ‘shaking and telling him that he will not be able to teach him moving forward since he is moving abroad’ (which was a lie), he is determined to get back on the road to show he’s got what it takes to be a perfect driver.
Tubes’ progress with expert RED Instructor, Jean-Pierre, will be tracked and shown in a monthly YouTube series called ‘TEST TUBES’ on VauxhallFootballTV, which can be watched here or on the blog section of the RED site.
The presenter won’t be facing the challenge alone, however, and will be given guidance along the way by various famous footballers. Former Liverpool and England winger John Barnes offers his ‘advice’ in episode one, which documentsTubes’ first lesson.
Tubes says: ‘At 33 I really should be able to drive…I had a few lessons when I was a teenager, but didn’t carry it on. The dream would be to pass my test so that I can follow the Home Nations in France next summer. They say that it gets harder to learn when you get older, but I am going out to prove that idea wrong.’
Tubes will be learning in the brand new Vauxhall Corsa, and Vauxhall are also giving one lucky supporter across the four Home Nations the chance to drive away in one of the cars. Read how to enter here.
